manage-costs-and-billing
In Microsoft Fabric, managing costs goes beyond Azure subscription billing. Fabric introduces a capacity-based billing model, where compute resources (F64/F128/F256 etc.) are billed per capacity. In multi-capacity scenarios—common in enterprise environments—it's important to distribute workloads and monitor cost attribution per business unit or solution team. You can assign separate capacities for development, test, and production, or for individual departments to avoid "noisy neighbor" issues.
The Performance Insights Dashboard in the Power BI Admin portal provides visibility into capacity usage across workloads, including metrics on refreshes, DirectQuery activity, semantic model sizes, and more. This dashboard is an essential tool for understanding how different teams consume resources and optimizing capacity allocation.
